400 kV Power & Grid
at Reșița, Romania
The Reșița Data site in Banat Montan, Western Romania is adjacent to one of the most significant recent grid upgrades in the country: a newly upgraded 400/220/110 kV Transelectrica node at the convergence of three 400 kV corridors, with a cross-border interconnector to Serbia operational since January 2025.
Important: 650 MVA is the installed transformer capacity of the substation. It does not mean 650 MW are available to a data center. Actual connectable load for a large consumer requires a formal Transelectrica ATR grid study (6–12 months, ANRE Order 59/2013). No MW is confirmed or reserved without this study.

Confirmed Grid Infrastructure
- Reșița 400/220/110 kV Substation — 650 MVA Installed Upgraded 2024–2025 by Siemens Energy / Electrogrup / Retrasib (Economica.net, Nov 2024). 400/220 kV transformer: 400 MVA. 400/110 kV transformer: 250 MVA. Total: 650 MVA installed transformer capacity.
- Line 1: Porțile de Fier – Anina – Reșița (400 kV, 117 km) Inaugurated April 2024 (The Diplomat). Described by Transelectrica as the most complex overhead power line built in Romania in 30 years. Connects Iron Gates hydroelectric complex to the Banat grid.
- Line 2: Reșița – Pančevo Cross-Border Interconnector (400 kV, 131 km) Both circuits operational January 2025 (The Diplomat). Double-circuit, 2×1,380 MVA thermal capacity. Romania's 11th HV cross-border interconnection. Cross-border capacity increased +80% (Balkan Green Energy News). Connects to Serbian grid via Pančevo, opening routes toward Western Balkans and Central Europe.
- 4 EU PCI Designations — ENTSO-E TYNDP Project 144 ENTSO-E Ten-Year Network Development Plan — Project 144. Mid Continental East Corridor. Trans-Balkan Electricity Corridor. 4 Project of Common Interest designations under EU regulation, qualifying for accelerated permitting and potential EU infrastructure funding.
- Adjacent: PPC Romania 100 MW Gas-Fired Power Plant Public Power Corporation (PPC) — Greece's largest energy company, majority Greek state-owned, formerly Enel Romania (taken over October 2023) — acquired 9.9 ha adjacent to this site via public auction, December 2025 (Profit.ro), paying RON 5,598,340. Planned: 100 MW gas-fired power plant on former Uzina Cocso Chimică site, Valle Terovei industrial zone. Provides potential dual-source power redundancy for a data center on this site.
- Industrial Electricity Price: ~€0.14/kWh Eurostat electricity price statistics. Romania's industrial electricity price is approximately €0.14/kWh, below the EU average of ~€0.19/kWh. At 100 MW consumption, this represents a ~€5M/year operating cost advantage versus a comparable Western European site.

Milestones Requiring Action
- Line 3: Reșița – Timișoara (400 kV, under construction) Third 400 kV corridor. Contract: RON 309.5M, Electromontaj SA (Transelectrica.ro). Completion estimated ~2027–2028. Will complete the three-corridor convergence at Reșița and further strengthen the grid position.
- Transelectrica PDRET 2024–2033: Reșița Priority Node €1.9 billion grid development plan (Economica.net). Reșița designated as priority node on the Banat Axis in Transelectrica's 10-year plan. Signals continued investment in this node's strategic importance.
- Formal ATR Grid Capacity Study (Application Required) This is the critical path item. Per ANRE Order 59/2013: large consumers (>50 MW) apply directly to Transelectrica for an ATR (Aviz Tehnic de Racordare — Technical Grid Connection Approval). Study duration: 6–12 months. This study determines actual connectable capacity, connection voltage level, technical requirements, and connection cost. No MW is confirmed or reserved without it. Initiating this study is the first action of the development partner.
